The miRNAs can affect the differentiation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts by regulating transcription factors and signaling pathways. The expression of miRNAs in bone tissue can be altered by different osteoporosis conditions such as bisphosphonate treatment, estrogen deficiency and osteoporosis-induced hypercalcemia. Furthermore, miRNA is an important contributor to the molecular pathogenesis of osteoporosis. This review will provide a brief introduction of the miRNAs and their functional roles in bone metabolism and the pathogenesis of osteoporosis.Q:
